Why Julia Fox’s Comments About Sex Matter

In an appearance on Emily Ratajkowski’s podcast High Low with EmRata, Julia Fox, who previously dated Kanye West, said that she does not like sex.

  • Fox told Ratajkowski that she could happily “go without” sex. Having worked as a dominatrix at the age of 18, she says she has become “really desensitized to sex” and it is not “thrilling” for her
  • She says “Sex for me always has been one-sided but I think all women can say that. So it’s like, if I don’t really need anything from you, I don’t see the point.”

Why it’s important: Celebrities are becoming more open about not enjoying or not needing sex.

  • In October, Drew Barrymore revealed that had not she had sex since her marriage ended in 2016. “I’m not a person who needs sex and has to go out there and engage with people on that level,” she says.
  • Barrymore made the comments after she went viral for her unimpressed reaction on her talk show to Andrew Garfield’s claim that he had abstained from sex for six months while filming his latest movie.
  • The sex positivity movement encourages people to discuss sex without embarrassment. In a new wave of celebrity feminism, women are now discussing not having sex without embarrassment too.
