Fans are mocking Liam Payne's cringe comment on Harry Styles' Instagram post for music video Daylight

Fan are mocking Liam Payne’s “cringe” comment on his former One Direction bandmate Harry Styles’ latest Instagram post.

  • On Thursday, Harry Styles shared an Instagram post to mark the release of the music video for his single Daylight.
  •

  • Liam Payne quickly commented on Harry’s photo, writing “Lol that i just realised i have a song called daylight” followed by a series of emojis.
  •

  • Fans were thrilled to Harry’s former One Direction bandmate interacting with him and Liam’s comment received over 29,300 likes.
  •

  • However, some social media users mocked Liam’s comment. Some fans thought that Liam was hopelessly keeping tabs on Harry’s social media activity and commenting immediately: “Liam totally has ALL the notifications on.”
  •

  • While others suggested that Liam had a lot of time on his hands to comment on Harry’s post so quickly and dubbed Liam as the “Tom Felton of One Direction.” There is a running online joke among some Harry Potter movie franchise fans that Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy, never had a successful career as his co-stars in the movies.
  •

  • But lots of social media users also came to Liam’s defense and applauded that the singer was “supporting” Harry years after One Direction’s acrimonious split.

Why it matters: One Direction bandmates are increasingly acknowledging one another again and fans are hopeful the band might reunite.

  • Last week, Liam apologized for criticizing his supportive One Direction bandmates on Logan Paul’s Impaulsive podcast in May 2022 and said that he was mending his relationships with them. “The rest of the boys really stuck by me, and when I needed them the most, they kind of came to the rescue,” Liam says. “Even Zayn [Malik], as well, which is why I did send him a little thank you online, actually.
  •

  • In February, Liam posted an Instagram tribute to Harry congratulating his Grammy win.
  •

  • And in March, Harry accidentally posted a selfie of him wearing a One Direction t-shirt that appeared to be from the band’s 2012 Up All Night Tour — before quickly deleting the photo. Fans were ecstatic at Harry’s nod to his past.
